Laboratory operations involving chemicals may present hazards. Laboratory personnel must be able to recognize these hazards and implement practices and procedures to minimize potential risks. To minimize the risks associated with laboratory operations, EHSS provides guidance, assistance and training to aid laboratory personnel in recognizing hazards and maintaining an environment that fosters safety and compliance.
All laboratory Principal Investigators (PI’s) are required to implement the applicable components of the University’s Chemicals Hygiene Plan in their respective facilities. Laboratory PI’s must also register their laboratory operations with EHSS and update the registration information as changes occur. Laboratory personnel must attend the appropriate training prior to working with chemicals. At a minimum, this will include the Chemical Hygiene Plan training.
