Maintaining a complete and accurate inventory of chemicals present in University buildings and laboratories is necessary to meet compliance requirements, communication of chemical hazards, and to provide for chemical safety.
The University has procured a chemical tracking software system called BioRaft ChemTracker. The software will be rolled out this spring to support the collection and maintenance of a campus wide laboratory chemical inventory. The software allows easy tracking of chemicals using a barcode system and offers direct access to chemical specific hazard information and safety data sheets (SDS’s).
New processes and procedures will be introduced to support the chemical tracking system, including a centralized chemical receiving area managed by EHSS. Chemical Receiving staff will barcode and add the chemicals to a lab’s inventory prior to delivering them to the laboratories.
More details and information the the chemical tracking system will be provided as they are finalized. A tentative implementation timeline and links to the most current information on chemical tracking and the processes we are putting into place to support it are provided below.
