Effectively communicating hazards present in the workplace is essential to providing and promoting workplace safety. In accordance with OSHA’s Hazard Communication Standard, Syracuse University makes available Safety Data Sheets (SDS) to employees who may be exposed to a hazardous chemical(s) as part of their duties. An SDS is a fact sheet developed by the manufacturer that contains information on all of the health and physical hazards associated with a particular chemical. It also provides guidance on how to protect persons from these hazards and emergency information/procedures in the event of an accident.
SDS for hazardous chemicals are kept in University embossed, red 3-ringed SDS binders and are found at dedicated work locations. Individual SDS’s may also be requested from EHSS at 315.443.4132 or email@example.com.
