Environmental site assessments (ESA) are performed to gather sufficient information about the environmental conditions of a property and to identify actual or potential environmental contamination, which may impact the property value or affect claim to an “innocent land owner” exemption following acquisition.
Prior to the University procurement of a property, an ESA should be performed. EHSS can provide assistance in facilitating an ESA of a prospective property or at a University property planned for redevelopment.
Sites with known environmental contamination may be required to have Site Management Plans (SMPs) which contain requirements and/or restrictions for ground intrusive activities conducted at those sites. Syracuse University currently has the following sites that are covered by SMPs:
