Drinking water

Syracuse University receives drinking water directly from the City of Syracuse Water Department (SWD). The Syracuse Water Department must ensure water within the City distribution system meets the requirements set by the New York State Department of Health in NYCCR Title 10, Part 5, Subpart 5-1 Public Water Systems (Part 5). Part 5 establishes regulatory limits for specific water contaminants, and requires water quality monitoring, backup disinfection, and watershed protection. The Syracuse Water Department must report any violation of water quality standards to the Onondaga County Health Department (OCHD) immediately. The Onondaga County Health Department will issue drinking water advisories to protect public health as appropriate.
