Mold

Molds are naturally occurring organisms found almost everywhere, both indoors and outdoors. Mold can grow on nearly any surface when warm, damp conditions favorable to growth are present.

People vary in their sensitivity to mold exposure. Elevated levels of airborne mold spores may trigger allergic reactions or other health effects in susceptible individuals. While it is impossible to eliminate all mold and mold spores from the indoor environment, mold growth can be effectively controlled by managing moisture.

There are no established health‑based standards for acceptable levels of mold spores in indoor air. Because of this, air sampling for mold is not recommended or routinely performed. The best practice is to remove visible mold and correct the underlying moisture problem.

If you observe visible mold growth in your work area or living space, please submit a Facilities Services’ Service Request.

If you do not see visible mold but suspect a problem,  please submit an EHSS Request for Service to initiate an indoor air quality investigation.
