Stem Cell Review Process

All possession and use of stem cells must go through the University’s approval process, including any of the following activities:

  1. Procurement of any stem cells/cell lines
  2. New or any change in experiments with stem cells
  3. Transport, shipping, and/or sharing of stem cells
  4. Change in personnel or locations with stem cells

Depending on the type of stem cells and experiments to be conducted, the approval process may require review and approval from Office of Research Integrity and Protections (ORIP), Institutional Review Board (IRB),  and/or a Stem Cell Oversight Committee.

To start the review process, complete a Biohazardous Material Use Application and submit to EHSS. EHSS will forward the application to the ORIP to begin the Stem Cell Use Compliance Review process. EHSS will concurrently  prepare the application for IBC review. IBC approval will not be issued until the Stem Cell Use Compliance Review process is completed and all regulatory requirements are met.
