Body Protection Best Practices

Please refer to the following best practices when selecting and wearing appropriate body protection.

  • Lab coats and other body protection must be appropriate for the hazards present and laboratory process to be performed.
  • Lab coats and other body protection must be in good condition and fit the wearer properly.
  • Lab coats must be worn fully buttoned or snapped with sleeves fully covering the arm.
  • Chemical aprons must be worn over a lab coat as an added layer of protection. Chemical aprons on their own do not provide sufficient protection.
  • Lab coats and other body protection should be removed prior to leaving the lab area.
  • Lab coats and other body protection should be checked routinely for damage and replaced if damaged.
  • Lab coats and other body protection should be routinely laundered. Contact EHSS for assistance with protective clothing laundering.
