Bats

Bats are common in nature and may be seen on campus, particularly in late summer and early fall. It is important to avoid contact with bats, as some carry rabies. Rabies is a potentially fatal disease that can be transmitted to humans through contact with an infected animal, including a bat.

The capture and removal of bats on University property must be performed only by trained Facilities Services staff. If a bat is present in your room, work area, or any other campus location where human contact is possible, contact the Department of Public Safety (DPS) at 315.443.2224. Do not attempt to capture the bat yourself.

If you suspect that you or someone else may have had contact with a bat on campus, immediately contact DPS at 315.443.2224.
