Manufacturer’s Primary Container Labels
Manufacturers, importers, or distributors of hazardous chemicals must follow specific container labeling requirements. The manufacturer’s primary container label must have specified elements including pictograms, signal words, and hazard and precautionary statements which provide hazard information to the end user. University departments must ensure manufacturer container labels are maintained in good condition and replaced when needed.
University Secondary Container Labels
When the manufacturer’s products are transferred into other secondary containers, they too must be labeled with at least the product name and words, symbols, or a combination thereof that communicates the hazard of the product to the end user.
