Lab Coat Services

EHSS maintains an inventory of general use labs coat and flame-resistant lab coats for use by personnel in research laboratories. EHSS staff is available to assist lab personnel select the appropriate lab coat for hazards that may be present in the lab, make sure the lab coat is correct fit, and train individuals on the proper use of lab coats.

Obtaining Lab Coats

Lab personnel may request a lab coat by contacting EHSS at ehss.syr@edu

The lab coat(s) an individual is provided is not theirs to keep. Lab personnel that receive a lab coat must agree to the following practices.

  • Wear the appropriate lab coat when working with hazardous material, or there is a potential you may be exposed to a hazardous material.
  • Do not mark, label, deface, color, or write your name on the lab coat.
  • Wear with sleeves down and fully covering arms.
  • Wear lab coats only when in the lab or work area.
  • Return the lab coat for laundering if it becomes contaminated, soiled, stained, damaged, etc.
  • Return the lab coat to EHSS when your time in a research lab is complete.

Laundering Lab Coats

Lab personnel can return the lab coat for laundering if it becomes contaminated, soiled, stained, damaged, etc. A clean lab coat will be provided by EHSS when a dirty lab coat is returned for laundering.

Lab coats can be dropped for laundering at EHSS (032 Lyman Hall) on Monday-Fridays from 9 am-4 pm. Laboratories can also schedule lab coat laundering by submitting a Service Request through the EHSS website.

Returning Lab Coats

Lab personnel must return lab coats to EHSS at the end of their time in a research lab at Syracuse University. Lab coats can be returned to EHSS (032 Lyman Hall) on Monday – Friday from 9 am-4 pm at 032 Lyman Hall. Contact EHSS at ehss@syr.edu for more information.
