Syracuse University is authorized by New York State (NYS) Department of Health to possess and use radioactive materials and ionizing radiation producing equipment for education and research. The University’s radiation safety program is administered by EHSS and provides requirements and best practices for the safe and secure use of ionizing radiation in compliance with NYS’ Ionizing Radiation Regulations (6 NYCRR Part 16)
Syracuse University’s Radiation Safety Committee (RSC) authorizes and oversees all possession and use of ionizing radiation at Syracuse University. All use of ionizing radiation and radiation use laboratories must be approved by the RSC. Individuals using ionizing radiation must be authorized and trained by EHSS.
