All use of ionizing radiation at Syracuse University must be approved by the University’s radiation safety committee and be conducted in accordance with applicable NYS and federal regulations and the University’s radiation safety program requirements. Principle investigators intending to use ionizing radiation at Syracuse University must complete and submit an application for use of ionizing radiation to the Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) for initial review and assessment. The RSO will submit the Application and the RSO’s assessment to the radiation safety committee for approval consideration. The RSC, by majority opinion, will approve, conditionally approve or disapprove the application based on the information provided in the application and RSO’s assessment, the applicant’s experience with radioisotopes, and the effect the proposed use of ionizing radiation will have on University property and the safety and health of the University community.
